Dear Parents,
We hope that this time with your family is bringing you closer, and that by teaching your children about the love of Christ, you are reminded of His love for you, too. This Lent, let’s try to add something to our family life that can become a habit to make us the best version of ourselves. It can be something as simple as saying Grace before meals if you don’t already, or praying together in the morning or evening. If it seems strange and awkward – embrace it! What hasn’t been strange and awkward this year?!
Like Father Chris always says – if you haven’t started yet, start now. Think, talk, and pray about what you can do as a family this Lent.
Here are some ideas for you:
1. Give up a bad habit (each family member can pick their own habit). Bonus: put a set amount in a jar every time you go back to your habit and donate the money to a favorite charity on Good Friday.
2. Use fewer screens and spend that new found time as a family – play a board game, reach out to a relative, etc.
3. As a family, help a neighbor with something, or make a shopping trip for the food pantry.
Do something that will mean something to your family!
We highly recommend that you check out the
Lent page of our website to look at the many offerings we have for making Lent more meaningful for your family. We also recommend
Dynamic Catholics "Best Lent Ever," which has very short five minute videos each day. Their theme this year is: "It's not what you give up this Lent - it's who you become."
Below are many other resources. All of these resources are meant to enhance your Lenten experience, not be a burden. Please use what works best for your family. Some of them have whole lesson plans for all ages. Keep in mind that if you click on some of the associated sites, they may take you to sites that are not Catholic. Be aware that not all religions recognize our Catholic beliefs.
Praying that we will see you all soon,
